The overall goal of this project is to provide improved cooking stoves to Small Marginalized Industries (SMIs) who are involved in agro-Processing. Their aim is to reduce the amount of fuel and wood consumption, lowering carbon emissions and  making the working enviroment safer. There are a few agro-processing sectors that EPGAP works with, including pito brewing and rice parboiling.

Energy, Poverty and Gender in Agro-Processing (EPGAP)

Testimony

My name is Mrs. Cynthia Akugrivala. For the past 10 years i have been working brewing pito. I used to spend a lot of time brewing pito, and used lots of firewood in the process. This produced lots heat and smoke which was affecting my health. I was in most cases running at a loss. With the construction of these stoves which I benefited, I no longer experience the heat and smoke, spend less time brewing my pito and my kitchen is now condusive. As a result I am able to save, earn some profits which enables me to care for my children and pay for the things that they need. I will recommend this cooking stove to the general public.

Major Achievements

25 women within the project communities namely Yikene, Tanzui, Atulbabisi, Soe and Zaare were provided with improved cooking stoves. These stoves save energy as well as limiting carbon emitions.  We were able to provide them with the stoves thanks to SNV Netherlands International. As a result these women now use less fire wood and less time in their agro-processing activites. The state of their health has seen massive improvement due to the proper and safe emission channels that comes with this cook stove. Their working environments have become much more condusive for work
